How is the Alexandria federal court handling Strike 3 Holdings cases?

The Eastern District of Virginia follows a consistent pattern in these cases:

  • Assignment to a district judge and a magistrate judge. Each case is assigned to a district judge and a magistrate judge when it is filed. In the cases we reviewed, the district judges included Leonie M. Brinkema, Rossie D. Alston, Jr., Anthony J. Trenga and Michael S. Nachmanoff, with Magistrate Judges Lindsey R. Vaala, William E. Fitzpatrick and Ivan D. Davis.
  • Fast early subpoenas. Strike 3 Holdings asks for leave to serve a subpoena on the internet provider before the Rule 26(f) conference, under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(d)(1), and waives oral argument. In the cases we reviewed, the court granted these motions on the same day or the next day: May 12, June 10 and 11, and September 17, 2026. The subpoena itself is issued under Rule 45.
  • More time to serve. On August 20, 2026, the court gave Strike 3 Holdings until September 18 to serve the defendant in a May case under Rule 4(m), and Strike 3 Holdings asked for more time again on September 18.
  • An amended complaint. In that same case, 1:26-cv-01381, Strike 3 Holdings filed a redacted amended complaint on September 15, 2026, with a proposed summons, and asked the court for leave to file the unredacted amended complaint under seal. The public version does not show the subscriber’s name.
  • Dismissals after settlement. Strike 3 Holdings filed notices of settlement and dismissal with prejudice in two spring cases on June 4, 2026 (dismissed June 4 and June 8) and in a May 21 case on July 28, 2026, which the court approved the same day.

Our docket searches for May 3 to November 2, 2026 found no orders to show cause, severance orders, sanctions orders, default judgments or motions to quash in Virginia Strike 3 Holdings cases. Only one Virginia amended complaint was found in the period, and its unredacted version was submitted under seal, so there is no amended complaint to post.

Which internet providers appear in the Virginia cases?

Virginia is different from most states here. In the Eastern District of Virginia, the Exhibit A attached to each Strike 3 Holdings complaint is a list of copyright registrations, and the case captions read only “Strike 3 Holdings, LLC v. Doe”, without an IP address. The public filings we reviewed for the May–September 2026 Virginia cases do not name the internet provider, so we are not listing providers for Virginia in this report.

The 7 cases filed on November 3, 2026, which are outside the 49-case count above, list Verizon Fios in 4 cases (1:26-cv-03648, Springfield; 1:26-cv-03649, Arlington; 1:26-cv-03652, Alexandria; and 1:26-cv-03654, McLean), Comcast Cable in 2 (1:26-cv-03647, Alexandria, and 1:26-cv-03650, Manassas) and Verizon Internet Services in 1 (1:26-cv-03651, Woodbridge).

Your own letter is the best source: the provider that sent it is the one that received the subpoena. Our ISP letter guide and guide to ISP notices explain what each part of the letter means. See the Antonelli Law ISP subpoena defense page for more on each provider’s notice.

What does this mean if you received an ISP letter in Virginia?

A letter from your internet provider means the court has allowed Strike 3 Holdings to ask for the name and address on your account. It does not mean you have been found responsible for anything.

Many people we talk with want a quiet, anonymous resolution. See how an anonymous resolution works, what an amended complaint means and whether your name can become public.

Client review of Melissa Ross

“Woking with Melissa was fantastic. She was really effective in communicating with me in layman terms; translating legalize, explaining the process and making me feel I was in really good hands. She was always reachable and extremely prompt in communicating the back and forth between opposing counsel. I couldn’t have asked for more from Melissa. Because of the time zone, I was catching her late in her evenings and she always responded – THANK YOU. Sometimes you get lucky with the initial interview process, and I certainly did.”
