What Reddit Gets Right and Wrong About Strike 3 Holdings Lawsuits

Share

Almost everyone who gets a Strike 3 Holdings letter ends up reading Strike 3 Holdings Reddit threads. That makes sense. It is anonymous, it is free, and you can read stories from people who went through the same thing. Some of what you will read is accurate and useful. Some of it was true for one person in one court and is risky as general advice.

This page sorts the common themes in Strike 3 Holdings Reddit threads into what holds up and what does not. We do not quote or link individual users, and we are not commenting on any other law firm. If you want a real answer about your own letter, call or tap (312) 201-8310.

What Strike 3 Holdings Reddit threads get right

  • The case is real. Strike 3 Holdings files federal copyright cases, and the provider letter refers to a real federal case. Checking the docket number is a good idea.
  • The letter is not proof you did anything. It goes to the person who pays the internet bill. Courts have recognized that the subscriber is not necessarily the person who used the connection. The Ninth Circuit said so in Cobbler Nevada v. Gonzales (2018).
  • Your provider has to notify you first. Providers generally notify the account holder before releasing subscriber information. That notice is the letter. Some providers describe this in their own policies. See our Comcast Xfinity and Cox pages.
  • Do not call Strike 3’s lawyers yourself. This advice comes up again and again in Strike 3 Holdings Reddit threads, and it is sound.
  • Many cases end without the subscriber ever being publicly named. Many people resolve these matters quietly through counsel, and some cases are dismissed.
  • Stay calm. This is a civil copyright case, not a criminal charge.

What Strike 3 Holdings Reddit threads get wrong, or oversimplify

  • “Just ignore it.” Ignoring the letter does not stop the provider from releasing your name after the notice period. It mostly means you lose the window to act while still anonymous. See Should I ignore a Strike 3 Holdings subpoena?
  • “It’s a scam, they never actually sue anyone.” Strike 3 Holdings does file amended complaints that name individual defendants in some cases. See the amended complaint stage.
  • “My settlement was X, so yours will be too.” One person’s number tells you very little about your case. Results depend on the facts, the evidence, the court, and your own situation. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
  • “Wipe your drives and get a VPN.” Deleting files or wiping devices after notice can create a far bigger problem. A VPN going forward does not change what is alleged about the past.
  • “File a motion to quash yourself, it keeps you anonymous.” A filing you make on your own can put your name in the public record. See why filing your own motion can affect your privacy.
  • “Your deadline is 30 days,” or any other fixed number. Deadlines come from the court order and your provider’s letter, and they differ. Use the dates in your own documents.
  • “You need a lawyer in the state where you were sued.” Federal courts allow electronic filing, and attorneys admitted in a federal district can appear there. Antonelli Law® handles these matters nationwide.

How to use Strike 3 Holdings Reddit threads wisely

  • Use it for general orientation and emotional support, not for decisions about your specific deadline.
  • Never post your docket number, IP address, provider letter, or real name.
  • Be cautious with anyone who sends you a private message offering help.
  • Check anything important against the court record in your case, or ask an attorney.

great experience with Antonelli

“I hired Jeffrey Antonelli for a copyright infringement issue (Strike3) in Massachusetts. It was a very good decision. He has dealt with many such cases and immediately put me at ease. He ended up negotiating a settlement that was much less than what I told him was my limit. He understood my privacy concerns and ensured that my name stayed out of any communication with opposing counsel, court filings etc. The whole issue was wrapped up within 3 weeks. He charges a non-negligible fee, but it is 100% worth it if you want to settle quickly and quietly and move on.”

Frequently asked questions

Is Reddit a good place to learn about Strike 3 Holdings?

A Strike 3 Holdings Reddit thread can be a helpful starting point for general orientation. It is not a substitute for reading your own court order and letter, or for advice about your specific case.

Are settlement amounts on Reddit accurate?

They describe individual experiences. Results depend on the facts of each case. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

It’s also important to note that every settlement agreement with Strike 3 Holdings LLC  contains a confidentiality clause. This means that either: A) the person who is posting it is breaching their confidentiality agreement with the movie company, suggesting the poster has rather poor judgment and you might not want to take their advice. Or, B)  It raises suspicions as to whether what is being said is truthful at all.

Is it safe to post about my letter on Reddit?

Avoid posting identifying details such as your docket number, IP address, provider letter, or name.
