We recently learned that Bryan N DeMatteo is sending New Yorkers letters demanding $5,600 to settle the copyright claims of its client regarding allegations of illegal downloading the movie “Mechanic: Resurrection”. We were sent a copy of the letter by a defendant in the ME2 productions, Inc. case in New York.

The letter states:  “Time Warner Cable identified you as a subscriber associated with one of the IP addresses used to infringe the rights of my client.”

Bryan N DeMatteo writes ” If this case is litigated to trial, and the named defendant is found to infringe, damages awarded to my client may include actual lost profits or statutory damages, which can range from $750 to $30,000 or $750 to $150,000, depending on whether the copyright infringement was willful .”

But what got our attention was that Bryan N DeMatteo then names a Western out of state defense attorney, his telephone number, and his website address. While he also provides the website for the New York Bar for defense attorney referral and pro bono resources, we thought providing this out of state defense attorney, his telephone number, and his website address was odd.

So we had a better idea.
