Malibu Media 2018 Updates

According to TorrentFreak, Malibu Media is one of the top filers of copyright infringement lawsuits across the US and filed 681 cases in the first six months of 2018. This has contributed to the record-breaking number of lawsuits filed in the second quarter of 2018, between April and June. While in 2017 just 1,019 file-sharing lawsuits were filed in the US, this number has already been exceeded in the first six months of 2018.

Your Malibu Media Case Options

If you have received a letter from your ISP notifying you of the Malibu Media lawsuit, don’t panic. You still have options available:

  • Anonymously settle: You can remain anonymous by agreeing to pay a financial settlement and resolve your case. However, you will be responsible for paying the agreed-upon amount, regardless of whether you feel you should have to. If you settle through a copyright infringement attorney such as Antonelli Law, you are completely protected from any future copyright actions by Malibu Media for any future alleged download activity that happened before the settlement.
  • File a motion to quash: This option works for certain limited circumstances such as if the case was filed in a different jurisdiction than where you live. Even if the motion is granted, the company may be able to file an amended lawsuit. Discuss your circumstances with your attorney to determine if this is a viable option. Antonelli Law has been successful with multiple motions to quash and can provide advice on how you should proceed with your case.
  • Fight it in court: You could win the case and get damages, which could include legal fees. If you lose the case, then you may owe more than the original settlement fee. If this is the right option for you, chose an experienced law firm to fight back for you in court. Antonelli law understands the sophisticated technology involved in these cases, which is crucial to building a solid defense. Our last complex trial even included a Microsoft certified expert.
